Services I Offer
Personalized Psychotherapy Care and Guidance
Individual psychotherapy is the one-on-one relationship between myself and you. We will explore your goals, your thoughts, your behaviors and relationships with their underlying consequences (what’s bothering you and/or others). In our work together, you can come to realize that you may have been following older patterns of thoughts, relationships and behaviors that are no longer working for you. We will explore and find new satisfactory ways of being. I will come into this relationship with a set of ethical considerations, rigorous academic training, curiosity, and an awareness of the complexity of our internal worlds.
I will make interpretations and hold theories in mind. I will listen for the information that gives away the “stuck” and I will be with you. Therapy is about the relationship, because most times it’s a relationship (with others or ourselves) that make us seek therapy.
Parenting, Post-Partum, and Medically Complex Situations
Many children and teens express their emotional challenges through difficult behaviors (tantrums, difficulty sleeping, anger, problems at school, etc.).
Your family may experience transitions (moving, death in the family, divorce, being stuck at home) and it is typical for children and teens to respond. Sometimes when you are faced with your child’s emotional challenges it feels like nothing works, nothing is changing and everything seems to be more difficult. It may feel like you’re not a good parent, even like you failed.
My approach is to help you understand and gain insight into your child’s experience, and see the situation through their eyes and I may suggest that you try something different. I may also explore with you your own response to your child’s struggles, in a way that will allow you to be closer to how you envisioned yourself as a parent.
I have experience working with post-partum challenges. For instance, having a new baby is not as anticipated; perhaps it is difficult to connect or be able to soothe, or you are worrying that you’re not doing it right. Perhaps you worry that something will happen to the baby, or that you will harm the baby. This can feel very isolating and unusual, and I can assure you that many have this experience. I am here to support you! We will find ways to explore these emotions and strengthen your resilience.
I also have experience working with parents of medically complex/ fragile children. There are multiple community services to access for your child and less for you. I can help you navigate the complexity of your own emotions.
